Learning Online Marketing – Goal Setting For Your Intermediate Internet Marketing Efforts

When you first begin learning online marketing you will devote a great deal of your time focusing on specific, short term milestones to help you achieve your long-term goals. Much of the work in the beginning is quite repetitive but it’s this repetition that will ultimately make you successful.

Once you’ve got the basics drilled into your mind and are beginning to see some of the returns on your investment of study, money, and labor you’re probably going to have a “what next?” moment. For some marketers this moment becomes a mini crisis of sorts. But you can head it off if you begin making intermediate goals early in the process.

Defining Your Internet Marketing Goals

The first goals are often basic goals. Learn this. Do that. Build your online marketing empire one blog post, Squidoo lens, or Hub Page at a time. As your business grows your goals need to grow, change, and expand. You need to be able to define short-term, intermediate, and long-term goals for your business and revisit those goals often to ensure they’re still valid.

How do You Define Intermediate Goals?

Intermediate goals for online marketing need to be three things: specific, aggressive, and achievable.

If you make the goals too simple or easy you aren’t challenging yourself enough and you certainly won’t be living up to your potential. You also run the risk of becoming bored and losing interest or letting your campaign(s) slide. Either of these is bad for your bottom line and should be avoided.

If you make them impossible you’ll get bogged down in the details, frustrated, and might quit right before your business has the chance to really take off. There is a bit of a tight rope walk involved but when you find the right combination of challenge and “do-ability” you’ll have created goals that are going to grow your business at a reasonable rate and you’ll avoid many of the “growing pains” other businesses (online or brick and mortar) face.

If you’re too vague about your intermediate goals while learning online marketing you’ll find that you have destination you wish to chart a course towards. In other words, there’s no direction for your business to go. Vague directions don’t work well on a roadmap and they only lead to confusion when it comes to defining business goals. Be as specific as possible for your goals and the plans you make to meet those goals.

There’s a sort of Goldilocks philosophy to Internet marketing that you’ll need to get a handle on in order to be hugely successful. When you find the path that’s just right for you, your business will really take off. Learning online marketing and developing intermediate goal setting skills are vital to that success.

Creating Your Website – What You Need to Do to Make it LIVE!

Creating Your Website – What You Need to Do to Make it LIVE!
By Matt Bacak

If you have a domain but you find it difficult to load on the server don’t despair. You’ll first need to purchase hosting so that you can host your website somewhere. Now once you’ve got your hosting account, you’ll be given a cPanel username and password. This basically allows you to have an HTML site. But in order to set up your site you’re going to need some software. What I would suggest is using a free software package called FileZilla. What you’re going to do is you’re going to download it. It’s a free piece of software and you download it to your computer. FileZilla is an FTP piece of software which will allow you to upload your files so that your website can be viewed on the internet.

If all of this sounds complicated it really isn’t. If you simply follow these steps I’m about to give you and if you take a look at the tutorial videos I have on promotingtips.com member access area, you’ll be fine. Once you create your first website it gets easier. Also, you don’t have to do it yourself if you don’t have the desire to do so. Simply hire a college student in any graphic design program or go to any online freelance site like rentacoder.com, elance.com or guru.com to have your website set up for you for very little. But if you want to know how to do it yourself you’re going to need three things really. You’re going to need your cPanel login from your hosting account, your domain and FTP access.

Now, just because you have a domain does not mean that you’re going to be able to do anything to your website or load anything up. What you need to have available is a place where all of your data is going to be hosted and stored. This is going to be your hosting account. So what you want to do, when you open up FileZilla are a few things. In the upper left-hand corner, it’s going to say “host.” And you’re going to type in your domain name there. Now, I would not put http:// or www in front of it. Simply type in the exact name of your site with the .com extension. Don’t put anything before your website name. So, let’s just say it was PromotingTips – that’s one of my sites. I would put in PromotingTips.com. Then it will ask you to enter your host name as well. You’re going to put in the username and password for your cPanel hosting account. Don’t worry about the port. That’s not a concern. The system will know what it is immediately.

Once you’ve completed those steps you’ll then have to enter the Quick Connect. On the left-hand side of the screen you’re going to see all the files on your computer. You’re going to do a search to find the file that you want to load to your FTP site. Once you do that you’ll then see on the right-hand side all of the files for your website. When you log in, it’s going to give you a bunch of different files. You want to go into the “Public HTML” folder. There you’ll see, on the right-hand side, when you log into what’s called the remote site. This is your hosting account. Here it’ll say Public.html or Public_html. Click on that, and then you’re going to see where all of your files are going to be hosted.

What you’ll do next is you’re going to drag the file you want to upload to your website from your computer and drop it on to the actual area inside the Public_html. You’ll need to also note that typically, the main page is always your index page or your main homepage. So, the main page is always the index so you’ll be able to see it there. That’s typically how I do it. But a word of advice, make sure that you enter your username and password in all lower case characters – with no spaces. Once you do that, simply log in there and you’re going to look for how to FTP and edit your website. If you’re a member as I mentioned earlier you can view the complete video tutorials of how to set up your website on promotingtips.com members area. I offer a file in there that’s going to show you exactly how it’s all done. That’s going to be able to help you a lot.

Remember; if you’re not inclined to do it yourself hire someone. They are an expert and would most likely get it done quickly. If you want to focus more on the marketing and strategizing of your business let someone else specialize in the setup of your site. A little help can sometimes move you further along much quicker so that you can focus on profits rather than tasks that just consumer your time. It’s really up to you.

Matt Bacak’s Top Tips to Make Money with Twitter

Even though Twitter has been around for a couple of years, it’s only now picking up major momentum as an affiliate marketing tool for most affiliate marketers.  Here are the two of the strongest tactics that I and the rest of the Bleeding Edge team have learned from Matt Bacak about how to make money with Twitter.

Send a link with your welcome messages.

You probably already know that you should send a direct message to every new follower you get (and if you didn’t–you do now!).  But most marketers, for some reason, neglect to put a link in this message.

This link doesn’t have to be for a paid product.  In fact, it probably shouldn’t be.

What kind of link should you send?  That all depends on your niche.  In the IM niche, you shouldn’t get any complaints if you send a link to a valuable report or some other helpful product that others can download.

In other niches, you might simply want to encourage your followers to check out your blog, website, or even your Facebook profile.  Pay attention to how low- or high-key your niche acts on Twitter, and you’ll have a good idea what to send.

Invest in some auto-posting software.

Sites like Postlater.com and Socialoomph.com allow you to post to Twitter even when you’re asleep!  (You can also have custom “dripped content” posting software made for you at rentacoder.com.  You really don’t need this kind of solution until you have plenty of twitter accounts howeverSportspark60.

Combine this with a newsfeed Tweeting service like Twitterfeed, and you have a winning combination.  Your newsfeed service will keep you listed in Twitter’s search engine and attract new followers, while your auto-posting software will take care of the actual monetization.

You can learn more about how to make money with twitter at Matt Bacak and Mark Joyner’s “Survival Tactics for Tough Times” seminar in December.

Get Twitter Followers with Matt Bacak’s Favorite 2 Tips

Matt Bacak has nearly 90,000 followers on Twitter.  Here are two of his best tips that will help you get Twitter followers–even when you’re not at the computer!

Direct message people that follow you.

You don’t have to “hand-deliver” the message if you don’t want to.  Sites like Socialoomph.com (also known as Tweetlater) allow you to save pre-set messages that will be automatically delivered every time someone follows you.

Tweetlater also gives you the option to vary your welcome message from one delivery to the next.  People expect a bit of canned Twitter text in the internet marketing niche, but not every market is as understanding.  Vary up your welcome or thank you message and people will be less inclined to think you’ve offended their sense of what is genuine.

Whichever option you go with, you should definitely make sure to direct message every new follower you get.  Even small personal touches like this will stand out in Twitter’s hyper-ADD environment.

Run news feeds through your account.

Sites like Twitterfeed.com enable you to broadcast a constant stream of keyword-focused content from your account.

If you pick enough keywords/news feeds and set them to search for new content every half hour (Twitterfeed’s quickest cycle), you should end up with a reasonably steady stream of niche or even sub-niche focused content.

This will keep you in Twitter’s search engine for your relevant terms, and people who want to know all about your niche are of course more likely to follow you if they can find you!  Newsfeeds make it easy for you to let yourself be found by putting you into search.twitter.com several times a day for your keyword.

2 Ways to Find Readers for Your List Building Efforts

List building is one of the most powerful niche marketing strategies you can use in your online efforts.  Once you’ve got list content and an opt-in squeeze page, how do you find people who will want to sign up for your list?

Forums can be great places for your list building efforts.

Forums are like deep pools full of nothing but your niche market.  If you do it right, collecting subscribers from a forum can be as easy as dipping a cup into water!

As with any other kind of forum marketing, don’t just charge in there trying to get people to sign up for your list.  Become well known as a helpful, informative person.  Once you have a reputation as someone who knows what they’re talking about, then you should put a link to your website or opt-in page into your signature.

Pay per click marketing can be a good idea.

This can get expensive if you’re not careful.  If you don’t have much experience with PPC marketing, make sure you set your daily ad spend maximum to something you can afford.

Keep in mind that not everybody who clicks on you link will necessarily want to sign up for your list.  Your sign-up rate will depend in part on the quality of your landing page, and partly on the keywords you use.

(This is why you should have some sort of tracking or analytics software in place.  Some keywords will give you a lot of visitors who want to sign up for your list, while others will do nothing but raise your Adwords bill!)

Matt Bacak’s Article Marketing Strategy: 3 Steps to Make Your Content Go Viral

While there is no 100% sure article marketing strategy to make your content go viral, there are a few things you can do to increase your content’s chances.  Over time, the following article marketing strategy will give you an increased chance to make sure your content goes viral

Tie your niche to the latest relevant news.

Sometimes the news will jump straight out at you–those in the credit, debt relief, and make money online niches have had it “easy” for the past year.

But the news you use doesn’t have to be an obvious tie to your niche.  If you look hard enough, you can usually make one of the day’s headlines work for you.

Perhaps you can show how disaster would have been averted if someone had just followed.  In other words, if the day’s news isn’t relevant to your niche, make it relevant if you have to.

Turn your article into a video.

You don’t have to be professional actor or even very good speaker in order to do this.  Just be able to speak loudly and clearly enough so that people can understand what you’re saying.

Put a watermark on the bottom with a link to your site, then upload to Youtube.  Then you’re ready to:

Get your article and your video up on Twitter–and get others to do the same.

Tweet the links to your article and your video.  Shorten you link with a service like Tinyurl.com or bit.ly, so that you’ll have space in your tweet to tell people what the link is about.  Get everyone you know to retweet your link.

Don’t know many people who know you well enough to retweet for you?  Perhaps you can offer an incentive.  If you don’t have any reports, software, or discounts that you can give to people who do you favors, find some.

(These will also come in handy for list-building, and for product launches where plenty of other people are selling the same thing you’re selling, and you need to set yourself apart from the crowd.)
