Is Autoresponse Plus Upgrade Necessary?

If you’ve read any of my articles about how I use autoresponder optins to grow my list you probably already are aware that the autoresponder software program that I highly recommend is Autoresponse Plus. It makes your whole follow-up process immediate and automated so that you can stay in constant contact with your prospect via email. Autoresponse Plus allows you to capture not only the email and name of your prospect or visitor, but it allows you to have money in the bank almost instantaneously whenever you choose, giving you a regular boost of income on demand. Although money plays a big role so does relationships. This software helps you build credibility and long-term trust which is important to any business. One of the features which I love is that the software allows you to send limited time offers that expire within hours. This feature alone makes you look on top of your game and very professional.

I can do all of these things with Autoresponse Plus now. But I was recently asked by a student about the new version Autoresponse Plus 4. Do I recommend this new upgrade? Actually, no I don’t. Not because it doesn’t work just as well with a good selection of new features, but the current version I have now does everything I need. My stance is why reinvent the wheel.  I personally don’t care if a new version is coming out. I like to wait for a while until the new version of the software gets tested. If something works, I don’t fix it or try to make it better because I’ve found upgrading sometimes causes more problems then it’s worth. For example, you’ve got Windows XP, you move up to Vista, and then you’ve got a piece of crap you’re working with and you can’t go back. The same applies in my opinion if you’re using ARP3 and you want to upgrade to the new ARP4 version … I wouldn’t recommend it personally.

If therea re problems, you’re going to be the guinea pig for the problems and the testing during that process. Let them figure it out first. Wait a year or two and then if you decide you want to upgrade, I suggest you do it then. I’ve been using Autoresponse Plus 3 since 2001 and I have no complaints. That’s why I prefer to keep what I have and avoid the newest version.

On an aside if you have the budget I also highly recommend using InfusionSoft, if you guys are familiar with Infusion or InfusionSoft, I’m also using that. It’s an amazing product. Although a bit on the expensive side – $5,000 and then 300 bucks a month, but it also works well with a ton of features. So, just so that you’re aware of what’s available to you and what I recommend. Go with either of these two and you should be good to go.

Length of Your Email In Your Autoresponder Program

If you’ve ever received an email from something you’ve signed up for you may have noticed that often times the length of the email is shortened. Not every online marketer does this. For those not as knowledgeable about autoresponder email messages sometimes you may have to scroll to the right to continue reading your email message which can be very annoying.

If you are marketing your own newsletter or are sending emails to your list through an email autoresponder you need to know a few simple tips:

  1. Write your email in Notepad to ensure all of the characters you use are legible to your reader. For example, quotations can often turn into question marks or other symbols if you don’t use Notepad. Never use other editors like Microsoft Word for example when compiling your emails to send. It’s best to type them up in Notepad to ensure all of your text including symbols stay intact.
  2. In Notepad, put 0987654321 about six to ten times across the top of your email message before you begin writing your message in Notepad. This will ensure your message won’t be too long for your reader. The last thing you want is your reader having to scroll across the screen to read your message. Typically I like to keep my emails about 60 characters in length. So, my advice to you is to simply write those digits six to ten times (nine is a good number) and make sure your message does not go beyond the end of the ninth batched sequence and your message will be easy for your reader to read. Shorter messages also often make an email message easier to read. There is less strain on the eye and makes your message a quick and easy read for your viewer.
  3. One big piece of advice before all others is to always make sure your subject line in your email is a strong call to action to get your reader to open your email. If you don’t do this the above points are useless.

Make your reader eager to read your message and everything else will fall into place.

How to Create a Video Call-to-Action Opt-in

When creating videos with the intent to drive traffic to an opt-in, the best way to end your video to get the highest conversion is fairly simple if you establish the right call-to-action.  What you need to ensure that is at the bottom of every single slide in your video is your URL website address. However, all though this is very good you need to do more. You need a clear call-to-action that will make your visitor take action right away. The best way to do this is through a resource box.

Your resource box on your articles, marketing materials and videos can make an enormous difference in your conversion rates and sign-ups and sales. Over the years I have experimented with many resource boxes. I’ll share with you what I used to do as well as what I do now.

Before, my old resource box on my videos, had a poor call-to-action. Actually, it wasn’t really a call-to-action at all. It used to say:

“Matt Bacak began his first earnings at the tender age of 12 as a young businessman and making now 15 years later, Bacak survived failed businesses, botched partnerships, heavy credit card debt, and bankruptcy, all in preparation for his accomplishments. What he’s achieved today is a well-established internet marketer and bestselling author…For more information visit or go sign up for his promoting tips here.” That’s my old one.

But after testing and tweaking, I’ve since revised it to say this:

“There are many strategies to make money on the internet.” See, what I’m going is I’m assuming I’m talking about something that’s making money on the internet. So, this is what I started having my resource box and my call to action be. So, “There are many strategies to making money on the internet. But nothing makes sense unless you have a big list. How to Upsell on a Free Ebook Opt-in Offer? It’s fairly easy to do…

Giving away something for free is one of the best ways to quickly build your list. If you are offering good information that is not easily accessible online then you definitely have a winner and will have a bigger list in no time. If you want to make sales with this free ebook offer, it’s also fairly easy to do if you approach it the right way. Let me explain…

Suppose you are giving away a free ebook as an ethical bribe in exchange for somebody joining your list.  Offering an audio or video version of the same ebook or having an expanded version of some of the material in the ebook, and offering it as an upsell (in audio or video format)in addition to the free book is a great idea! I have not done that but I do see the huge potential of such a set up. If I did do it, this is what I suggest you do.

First of all, your ethical bribe or the incentive for somebody to give you their name and email address is going to be to get this free book. After you’ve given them this offer, then what you could do is offer the upsell on the thank you page. Let me explain exactly how to set up your pages.

So, once they give their name and email address and end up on the download page with your free ebook offer, you will immediately sell them with your upsell offer.  At the top of the page where it says, “Congratulations, your ebook has been sent,” or if you have the download link at the top of that page (actually having it sent in an email is better as it keeps them focused on your new offer – the upsell).

So, after you present the message of “congratulations your free ebook is now being sent to your email…” Then underneath it put the upsell offer sales letter.  If you offer the free ebook as an audio or video upsell you could say something like “… here’s one of the great things. I put this in an audio and video format. If you’d like to get it, here’s where you could go get it right now. I expanded on some of the things I was talking about inside the ebook. But with this audio (or video) you can gain access to more information on this, this and this…. I address these points in detail even further in this audio/video …” Write something along those lines. This is an excellent way to present your upsell. That would be a really good thing to do actually because it maintains the congruency of your offer.

Make sure you use action words when you present your upsell offer like “Go grab it now,” leading to the sales letter where you’re going to sell that specific product or course. Basically, that’s the way that I would do it. It all begins with you taking action to make it happen. Just remember to always test and track to see what works best to improve your conversions and sales.

What is the Purpose of a Blog and What Should Be On It?

Realistically speaking I still don’t know what the purpose of a blog is. I haven’t figured it out yet. However, the reality is that it’s not going to bring you any cash. It’s going to make you a little bit of money but it’s not going to be all that much.

But you should understand the real purpose of having a blog. Blogs are made to drive traffic to your main website. What I do with a blog is I always drive all my traffic back to a squeeze page so I can capture my visitor’s information. I use it for list building. I could make a lot of money from a list and from those individuals that are opting-in. You’re building your list so that you can sell to these people again and again so getting traffic generated from a blog is essential. It’s one of the best strategies a website owner can use to have the search engines flag their site as a quality one. If you’re adding quality content to a blog and linking daily to your main site that tells the search engines that your site is important. That constant activity draws in traffic and search loyalty.

Overall, here’s what I see as being the purpose of a blog… It’s not one of the first sites that I personally put up, although it is good to have a blog because once you have a couple of blogs out there that are getting a high ranking, you get a lot of visits and a lot of people reading your blog. Also, you can syndicate your information to anybody that’s signed up for your RSS feeds to get your information out there even further. That’s a cool thing.

Another good thing about blogs is they get picked up by the search engines a lot faster than pretty much anything else. Therefore, you can put a link to yourself from your blog to your other websites to help pull them up higher in the search engines. It’s a really good way for driving people onto your list back to the blog. You’re training people to click on links to go back to your page. You’re also going to get more of your messages through the spam filters because you’re going to send a short email with a link to your blog to have people read information.

You need to remember that when people land on your blog, they should get great information. However, you’re also going to have places for them to click and order some of your products or services along the side of your blog. So, there are actually multiple purposes for having a blog.

I’d suggest putting good quality articles on your blog. So, if you’re sending out an email today, any link will lead to your blog article. I’d suggest doing this daily. Submit two articles today and the same for the following day. Submit two articles and one email, then both articles and the one email (with email link) will lead to your blog. So, that’s Matt’s lazy way of doing it. While you’re doing this you’re still giving great content and information to those visiting your site. Blogs are an excellent way to generate traffic and build your list.

Offering a Course – Links or CD’s?

If you decide to offer a course online I commend you for taking the time to put together your course. It takes quite a bit of time to put together all of the resources for any course. There is quite a bit of management, organization and just the knowledge of what to include in your course that can make the task a bigger project then most of us would hope to take on. However, making it happen is an amazing accomplishment for anyone choosing this online option.

However, when you offer a course, you have to think about course delivery. How do you plan to deliver the course? Via online video or audio links, a download link, teleseminar, webinar or perhaps a CD. But there is a perceived value based on which option you chose. If you want to deliver seven lessons as CDs that would be more favourable over having links for your visitors to download. It’s true perceived value. People would rather get things in their hands.

The other pro is if you choose to have CDs and shipping it out to people for your course. What you’re going to find is that you’re going to have a higher stick rate. You’ll have less cancellations or refunds with CD’s as opposed to a digital link or MP3 on your website. That’s just human nature and some people don’t value links as much as a physical product that they can actually see and feel. People are also “delete crazy”.  There is so much information online and they are bombarded with emails daily that they often delete things without ever seeing their true value.

One main advantage of having a digital download is that it costs you nothing to deliver it. So there are some things you need to think about when deciding if you’d prefer to deliver your course via CD’s or as a link download. But one downfall as I mentioned before with a digital download version is that you’re probably going to have higher refunds. You can choose either option but just decide what is important to you, the perceived value and refund rate or your budget. Both are still good choices. At least you’re taking action and you can always improve upon your decisions based upon the results.
