If you have an action that you want your visitors to take when they arrive at your website, be as clear as possible. The last thing you want is to confuse your visitor with a bunch of different things. There are times when they don’t know why they’re on your site. All they know is they’re looking for information on a certain topic. However, your specific call-to-action can make or break your business.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say that you have a website focused on helping people to get loans. Now if you’re writing an article and submitting it to a website like EzineArticles.com, your resource/bio line should have a strong call-to-action like this, “Don’t risk getting a loan modification denied. This information could make a difference. Go here right now to find more.” Once they click, you’re driving them to your website. Do you see how you’re making them do something. And then when they get to your site, they are taken to an opt-in page where they can sign up for your offer – whether it be free information report, or a mini-course or whatever. Do you see what I’m saying? You have a clear message, and your visitor knows exactly what do to. That’s how you might want to structure all of your marketing. Place a very clear call-to-action so that you can better qualify your prospects.

To make sure that you understand, let me give you an example of how you should never structure your website. So, let’s just say that you’ve got a sales letter to sell and then you’ve got a link for your visitor to go to read your most recent press release. If they click on that link, you’ve taken them off your page. Basically, you’ve lost them.

If you have a press release you want them to read along with some free videos you’d like them to also watch, your website has lost its focus. What is it that you want your visitor to do? The reason I’m saying that, is because if you’re giving your visitor too many things to do on your website, that only confuses them and it doesn’t solve the problem of what it is you want them to do. You need to have a clear goal in mind for your prospect. Having one focused goal, for example, to have them sign up to receive your free report, is a good example of a well thought out call-to -action. So, if the outcome you want to have them to do is to buy, then you want to make the focus of the site one and one thing only and that is to buy your ebook. You want to take those things into consideration before you build your website. A clear and focused plan is crucial in growing a successful online business.

My suggestion for this case study above is to focus on your page itself. Focus in on selling that one thing, which is your ebook. And then secondly, focus on increasing your traffic. Get as many articles as possible circulated online to help you accomplish these two things. Then and only then will you begin to reap the rewards of your efforts.
