Creating a good sales page that converts takes some effort. You need to use compelling copy as well as test other versions to ensure that you’re making a sales page that produces the highest conversion rate possible.

If you are selling a how-to guide on your site with the use of video and use a video demo on your sales page, please refrain from using the word “video training.” The reason I say this is because training scares people away. You might want to say, “Discover the power of video and take your business to the next level. Watch this video now.” That would be a suggestion.

Also, always make sure that you left-justify your sales page. If you ever noticed, all online sales pages are left-justified, not centered. So, never center your sales page because it also makes it less pleasurable for your visitor to read. If you make their experience as comfortable as possible, this will help improve your conversion rates.

If you’ve been following what I teach for any length of time, you know how much I stress the importance of having an opt-in page to capture the names and email addresses of your visitors. Without a list, you have no business. Lists allow you to send emails out to your prospects any time you like – which means cash if you promote a product in those emails. But in order to make your visitors feel comfortable about giving you there information, make sure that you place a privacy statement on your opt-in page where it is clearly visible to your viewers. You can word it like this; “Please put your first name and your primary email address below so that I can get this information to you right away…” followed by; “We take your privacy very seriously. Your information will never be sold or shared.” This allows you to get more sign ups, which will ultimately effect the number of people you have on your list.

Now before you begin to send traffic to your newly written and designed sales page, I highly recommend you consider setting up and using Google Website Optimizer. This will allow you to test and track the best versions of your website through split testing. Doing an A/B split test will allow you to test two different versions of a website to find out which one converts better. Once you find out the winning page, you’ll then make this become your control page. Testing and tracking your results is extremely important. Once you do this, you’ll become even a better marketer – especially if you begin by using Google Website Optimizer. Understanding how to test and act upon those results, can take you that much further ahead of your competition.

Becoming an affiliate marketer selling other peoples products online for a portion of the sale is a smart move if you have a list that you can market to. People in any niche love to get product recommendations for things that will help them in their life – whether it be a golf club to help them play golf better or a chair that alleviates stress from their back. People need things to work for them and if you can use affiliate marketing to help them, you can be on the fast track to making a lot of money online.

However, in order to really build a business (besides having a list), you’ll need to test and track what you’re doing to ensure that you’re not wasting time and money. After all, you don’t want to invest hundreds or even thousands of dollars blindly not knowing whether or not your marketing efforts are working or not. You want to make sure that you are tracking everything you do to make sure that you can make the most amount of money possible. You need to test EVERYTHING. From your sales letter, to your email subject line. Tracking and testing every aspect of your business just makes good business sense!

Typically when I’m tracking my affiliate links, I look at the clicks I’m getting from various affiliate accounts. What I usually do is when I’m sending out emails, I’m using HTML email. All of my emails are in a HTML format not text format. Although it looks like a text email, it is actually an HTML email. But I do it this way so that I can easily track my clicks by simply logging into my mailing program. So, that’s how I do it from emails.

I don’t cloak affiliate links at all. But what I do do is I make redirects. I log into my cPanel. I take the affiliate link and change it to a personalized link of my own – aka a redirect link. By doing this, I’m creating redirects and redirecting the affiliate link to go to my own link. I do this so that it’s not a big, long, gobbledy-gook link that sways people from clicking. You can also consider using other programs and other affiliate tracking software available on the market to help you in your tracking and testing efforts.

“New MasterCard and Discover Processing Requirements”

I just copy and pasted it below – (word-for-word):

Dear Authorize.Net Merchant:

MasterCard and Discover are modifying their rules concerning the processing of debit, prepaid and gift cards. This e-mail includes important information about the new requirements and the timelines regarding Authorize.Net’s support of the requirements, so please read it thoroughly.

MasterCard’s rule changes go into effect May 1, 2010, and Discover’s rule changes go into effect April 16, 2010. However, Authorize.Net, MasterCard and Discover have worked together to extend these dates for all merchants using Authorize.Net solutions. Our merchants will now have until June 30, 2011, to implement support for the requirements within their systems.

What are the requirements?
MasterCard and Discover are requiring that all merchants support the following:
+ Balance response transactions — For prepaid and gift cards, once the card has been used, the remaining account balance will be transmitted along with the authorization response. The remaining balance must be printed on the customer receipt, displayed on the Web page or point-of-sale terminal, or both.
+ Partial authorization transactions — When a customer’s transaction amount exceeds the balance available on their debit, prepaid or gift card, instead of declining the transaction, a partial authorization for the amount available to the customer will be returned. This will allow the customer to pay for the remaining amount with another form of payment. This is called a split-tender transaction.
+ Authorization reversals — An authorization reversal is a real-time transaction initiated when the customer decides that they do not want to proceed with the transaction, or if the merchant cannot complete the transaction for any reason. Authorization reversals free up the customer’s available balance on their debit, prepaid or gift card.

What steps is Authorize.Net taking to support these requirements?
Authorize.Net will be updating our systems over the coming months to support the requirements, but will be dependent on each processor’s readiness. For a table of when we anticipate we will support the requirements with each processor, please visit http://www.authorize.net/support/pafaqs/#when.

What do I need to do to support the requirements?
The steps that you will need to take to support the requirements depend on how you connect to the payment gateway. For example, if you connect using a shopping cart, point-of-sale device, or other solution, you will need to contact your solution provider to confirm that they will be supporting the requirements. If you connect using a direct integration, you should contact your Web developer for assistance. Please direct your Web developer to http://www.authorize.net/support/pafaqs/#do for information on the changes they will need to make.

Do I have to support the requirements?
MasterCard and Discover are requiring all merchants to support the requirements with the exception of merchants that exclusively process transactions via batch uploads, mail order/telephone order (MOTO), or recurring payment transactions. Your Merchant Service Provider (MSP) is ultimately responsible for determining if the requirements apply to your business, so please contact them for assistance in determining if your company is exempt.

Once again, these requirements will not be enforced for Authorize.Net merchants until June 30, 2011. However, we wanted to bring them to your attention now so that you have plenty of time to plan for their implementation.

In part 1 of this article series: Teleconference Calls Make Good JV’s, I discussed the importance of an opt-in page and the importance of opening up communication channels with your market to gain a more loyal following. Today I’d like to discuss what you should and shouldn’t do to gain a new joint venture partner. One word of advice off hand?

Never complicate the process…

You’re JV partners want to put in as little effort as possible. You’ve got to make sure, when you’re dealing with other people and looking for joint ventures, outside of making them money is you’ve got to make everything as easy as possible on them. Make your partnership so danged simple that all they’ve got to do is send out an email and do nothing else. You do all the rest of the work.

So, for the teleclass, what I’d really recommend is that you set up everything! Set up the opt-in page as I already mentioned earlier. Set up the email that’s going inside the opt-in page. Set up the thank you page that they get after they login. Make sure that you put together the copy and set up the email with all of the teleconference details so that they don’t miss the call and that their list doesn’t miss any calls. You’ll also have to set up the lines. You’ll basically do everything to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

It’s very important that you let your JV partner know when you approach them with your proposal, that you’re going to do ALL the work. Be very clear in telling them that they don’t have to do anything. All they’ve got to do is get on the call, introduce you, and you’ll take care of the rest. Also let them know that you’ll pay them 30 days after it’s all over with. If you can make it that brain-dead simple for them, the likelihood of people saying yes to your joint venture proposals are going to be much greater.

Treat your JV partner like a king! Make the process as simple for them as possible to improve your changes of getting the deal. You’ll make more in the end and you’ll have a happy JV partner who will gladly do business with you again in the future.
