Determining Affiliate Commissions

Creating a digital product that is easily downloadable is an excellent concept because it usually involves less overhead and less of your time and can be delivered through an automated process. With this type of product it is not uncommon for affiliate managers to offer up to 60% commission and sometimes more! Now this is fantastic if you are an affiliate because it obviously means more money in your pocket if you decide to market their product. However, the question remains, how can they afford to do this?

Just imagine if you were the one producing that product. How would you feel about giving away half of everything you sold to somebody else that had no input into its creation? 50% commissions are usually the standard and if you offer anything less, you are not going to be very successful trying to convince JV’s and affiliates to market your product, no matter how good it is.

What about hard tangible products? If you get into producing a hard product, there are some real costs involved in doing this. And you may wonder, do I still need to give up half of every sale to each of my partners? The answer is yes. You are going to have to eat all the costs of production.

Even in my case, a lot of people buy my programs at speaking engagements or via teleseminars. But if they were hosted by somebody else other than myself, there is still a 50/50 split. I eat all the costs involved, including travel. What about shipping and handling? A lot of times I personally handle that myself and I eat that as well. But this cost is optional and a lot of people don’t include it. I believe they should but that’s just my perspective.

So, the real question is why do we have to give up so much and cover so many costs? Well, what it all comes down to is, you’re eating the cost but you’re gaining the customer.

The value is in the customer, not in the initial sale. The benefit is now you have somebody that you’re able to work with and sell more to in the future. You could call it the cost of advertising or the cost of doing business. It is no different then what most corporate giants do. They spend a lot of money just to get a few new customers through the door, because they know that once they’ve got you, there is a good chance you will stay with them if they continue to service your needs. Investing in loyalty is always worth the cost.

Branding Site vs. Squeeze Page

There are very big differences between branding sites and squeeze pages.   A branding site focuses on branding you. It is meant to provide lots of information about either yourself, your product, your services, or all three. One of the best reasons to have a branding site is to optimize your presence on the internet with the search engines. However, if you really want to optimize your sales, creating a squeeze page is absolutely

necessary. A squeeze page is like a mini sales page, but it is designed to entice people to give you their information by promising them something free in return, such as a newsletter or report.

So, let’s say you only created a branding site like most people do and did nothing else. You have your home page, about us page, news page, products page, testimonial page, etc. There are many different things for people to click. Now the question for you is this. What is the outcome that you want to have for your site? For many sites like this there really isn’t any outcome, except to give people information. That’s why it’s called a branding site. Now, if you want to get people to take action, whether it’s to buy your products or to opt-in so you can get them on your newsletter list, this is not the kind of site that you want to have.

My suggestion would be, if you have a branding site, that’s fine, put it to the side. You can continue to optimize it for the search engines, but have this site point to your squeeze pages.  I would recommend creating a whole new website specifically for one thing. So, for example, say you are into wellness and you want to sell products related to that niche. You create a new squeeze page site and you say, “Discover the ten essentials recommended for healthy living.” Then say, “Sign up here to get your free report”. Then after they sign up, you’re going to redirect them to a page where they can buy something. This page could be your products page on your branding site, or it could be a direct link to an affiliate product. They are going to be cookied through your reference ID if you send them to an affiliate page.

Then what I would do is either send them the report you promised them for free, or offer it instead as a free mini-series of ten separate emails. Reveal one essential for healthy living in each email with a product link. An example could be something like, “Here’s the energy system I recommend and if you buy it today you can get 50% off the second purchase. Go here right now.” And then you’re going to drive them to the link of the particular products instead of having to go back to your branding site and having to search through everything you have there. Think about this, the more times you make people click, the less they’re going to do it.

So my recommendation is this, if you have already built a branding site, say, “Okay, this is what I learned from this website,” then put it to the side. Now, I want you to create a squeeze page to specifically capture people’s information and hook that up to an autoresponder. I highly recommend using Autoresponse Plus software for your autoresponder sequences.

Once you attach the autoresponder it is going to send out email messages and drive your visitor to whatever site you want them to go to. My suggestion would be to drive them back to specific products that make sense for them so that they can access information. Make your visitors life easier and offer good information and they’ll love you for it.

Part 2 – The Best Way to Sell Something on Making Money

In the first part of this article series I addressed the secret to gaining more sales by enticing your prospect with words. In part 2 I want to share more ways that you can have your prospects buy from you. I’ll share with you secrets to making them buy now and avoid delaying their purchase. This means more sales for you in less time. Why wait for sales? Learn the secrets to having your visitor say yes now!

So, another thing I highly recommend that you stress in your offer is what a great deal your prospect will be getting if they purchase right away. Highlight any more bonuses that they’ll get with your offer.   A lot of times at the top of my sales letters I have a headline, then a sub-headline, salutation and opening paragraph. With my opening paragraph  I like them to be short and straight to the point. I think that’s a good strategy.

Next is adding the credibility with the testimonials, and after that I do bullets. I’ve found that five to seven bullets works really well. Use benefit-driven bullets to tell the customer why they need to take action immediately. Then, add more testimonials because this builds even more believability and credibility. It also helps excite the prospects about the benefits that you’re offering and lowers your prospects anxiety.

Another excellent strategy that works wonders is offering free bonuses. Free bonuses always increase your sales. People love free stuff. You want to have a high perceived value listing all of your bonuses as this helps convert your prospects into customers. N

Next, offer a money-back guarantee. Whenever you do a money-back guarantee it really takes away all their worries and so it’s one of the surest ways to increase your sales. You tell them not to worry because they’re not taking the risk, you are. Then, after that I usually state the price and briefly tell the customer one more time exactly what they’re going to get, and then the payment information. Tell them exactly how they can make their payment – through Visa, Mastercard, Paypal… Sometimes what I’ll do is I’ll put a warning in there, of what happens if they don’t take action right now. This strategy works like a charm. However, a lot of marketers fail to do that. But if you do, you might want to think about putting a warning in there. Something like, “If you don’t take action right now, here’s what possibly could happen to you.” You want to make sure that you tell them what’s going to happen if they don’t take action right away.

Finally, the close. You want to tell them exactly what you want them to do. Don’t beat around the bush. Crappy sales letters that I’ve seen out there have very, very weak closes. You want to have a strong close with a call-to-action. I’ve been even as bold to say, “Here’s what I want you to do right now. I want you to put your hand on your wallet or grab your purse, pull out your credit card and then click on that link below.” Believe it or not, people will listen when you give them direct commands.

Another thing that you might want to think about if you don’t already have one is the P.S. at the end of the letter. It’s really proven that the P.S. is the second most important aspect of your letter besides your headline. There have been studies that show that when people read sales letters, they read from the top and scroll all the way down to the P.S at the bottom. So that’s also some things you need to consider to make your sales letter work for you and not against you. Build a strong benefits oriented sales page with a strong call-to-action and see your sales soar!

Part 1 – The Best Way to Sell Something on Making Money

If you’re specifically going to focus on the best way to sell a product that helps people make money, the best way to sell it would be through a sales letter. You need to write a compelling benefits oriented sales letter that’s going to entice your market to buy. However, your sales letter will need some essential things. You need to ensure your letter contains proof. People buy proof. So, if you can put some case studies, maybe some video or audio testimonials on there, that is definitely going to help improve your sales conversions. Bank statements can help as well, but you want to be careful that you have some disclaimers on the page. Nobody reading it cares about you, they care about the results and how they can benefit. That’s what people love to see because then they can imagine the same thing happening for themselves.

The other thing to really think about is, how you’re constructing your offer. There’s going to be different types of people that are going to come to you to seek your expertise. You have the people that are all feel-good and lovey-dovey and then you’re going to have other people that are going to want to see other people’s results and be very analytical. So how can you make your offer appeal to both groups? Well, you want to talk about the results they can achieve and give them the proof.

As an example, let’s say you are selling a $27 e-book. You could say something like, “Just imagine if every email that you sent out, just by doing one tweak, you increased your response by 10%? Let’s just say that equals $270 extra in your pocket. So just imagine being able to do that right now. That really makes this a no-brainer. By spending only $27 and using the secrets in this e-book to achieve an extra $270, you’re pretty much getting this book for free…”

That’s how I sold somebody recently on coaching for their speaking engagement. I said, “Well, look, my coaching is $2,000 an hour.” He came back and said,  “2000 bucks?” I was like, “Yeah.” I said, What’s your package worth that you’re going to be selling from the stage?” He said, “Well, a $1,000 package.” I said, “Well, okay, just imagine that by doing just a few tweaks in your presentation, you get two extra sales and make your money back. Now the great thing about it is, because you increased your sales by working with me, now you’re going to be offered new opportunities to go speak at other events.  So, with this one $2,000 investment, hell, you’re going to make your money back a hundredfold. I mean, it’s just stupid for you not to do this.” Then I asked him how he would like to pay by, Check, cash or credit card. He was sold! So think about how you can make your offer sound just as enticing.

Marketing on Twitter

Some people are finding that marketing on Twitter provides the most click-throughs and a good number of followers. However, is there really anyone who is making money on Twitter? If so, what’s their average click-through rate (CTR) and conversions?

Honestly, there’s not that many people I know that are actually using Twitter to make money. They’re using Twitter to help build relationships with prospective customers. The way that some people are really making money on Twitter is by getting speaking gigs or finding joint venture partners. They are  leveraging the relationships to make money. Other than that, the people that are actually using Twitter to make money are the ones that sell products related to how to make money on Twitter.

Regarding the average click-through rates, it’s really crazy. The numbers are insane. The reason being is because there are so many updates. The thing is, how do you know if your followers are even seeing what you have? For example, like me, I think I just hit 75,000 followers and I’m following 75,000 people. So when I push refresh, all the messages circulate and because there are so many, I can’t possibly look through everybody’s. It is information overload.

However, Twitter can be very beneficial for your online business. You just need to know how to use Twitter to leverage your efforts to find more people eagerly looking for the products, services and information you are offering.

Here are some suggestions of better ways to use Twitter:

If you’re sending people to places where they can watch videos or listen to audios and stuff like that, where they’re getting something, that’s very Twitter-like. If you’re sending your followers links to go buy various products then you’re going to have a hard time getting people to purchase. Twitter is more of a relationship building tool. Twitter is about from my perspective is building a relationship, finding people to do joint ventures with and also taking care of customers and people that are interested in your target market, your niche.

The one thing that’s very important with Twitter when you are looking to get followers is, the people you want to have following you are people that are actually interested in the topic or the target market that you’re focusing on. Even though I’ve got 75,000 people following me on Twitter, sometimes it’s so funny because I can send out a Tweet where I’m expecting to get a lot of responses and I’m lucky if I get one response. It sounds insane but it’s true. But you do need to realize that it’s really one of those things that’s hit or miss and it’s really who you’ve got following you and your relationship with them that counts. The number of other people following you is also important. You need to try to make your followers see your messages as this will help you in the long run. The only way they’ll see it is if they know you and trust you. If you’re a familiar name, they’ll be eager to receive your tweet and tweet you back. Relationships are not only vital to offline businesses but also online.
