What is the best way to contact people for JV deals when you are still unknown? Well, one of the best ways to contact them is by email, but you’ve got to give them some solid facts to work with. When you first contact them you could say something like,  “Hey listen, this new $29.97 program that I’ve got will pay you a dollar per click for every email you send out, plus you also get credit for any upsells you make for an entire year!” This will definitely appeal to their greed factor and as a result, you’re going to get a lot of people partnering with you.

When you start getting people to take you up on your offer,” what you might want to say at that point is, “Hey, listen, if you’ve got any joint venture partners that you think might be interested in working with me, let me know who they are. If you can give me their contact information, I promise that I will only talk to them regarding joint venture opportunities,” and then see what they’ve got. Occasionally we also swap with people as well by saying, “Hey, look, give me your top five joint venture partners and I’ll give you five of my top joint venture partners,” and then just do a swap with them that way. It is a win-win  for everyone because you both get more people to mail to. It’s kind of like a nice little marketing family.

Another really good way to meet possible JV partners is to go to seminars.  If you can make a connection with a few people and maybe take them out for a beer, it will give you a chance to tell them about your product and to get to know them better. But don’t go after them too aggressively like, “Hey, I’ve got this great product…” Instead say, “Hey, look, I really want to get to know you” and take them out for coffee or lunch. You don’t want to be really pushy because a lot of people use that approach and it doesn’t work. So, you want to be careful about how you do that. The less pushy you are, the more they’re going to be willing to help you.

If you don’t have a launch track record, that’s fine.  You might want to say to them, “Through my experience with this product, there definitely seems to be a lot of interest”. That’s how I would communicate with people, just tell them that one line. That really helps out and really works in securing joint venture partnerships. So, get out there and showcase what you have to offer. But not only that, start building relationships and make the right contacts as this will help your business in the long run.

If you have a new product and want to get as many affiliates as you can to market it, remember most affiliates are greedy and lazy. Basically, if you want to get joint venture partners or affiliates to mail for you, understand there’s a couple of key reasons why people mail. First of all, people mail for money. So, the best way to really get them is to talk figures. If you have already made up and tested an advertising campaign, you may want to tell prospects about conversion.

I’ll give you an example. I recently had a conversation with a prospective affiliate and said, “Look, I’ve been testing this video sales letter. I’m finding some interesting results. This is my control” – and I showed them my control. He says, “What’s the front end conversion?” See, a lot of real affiliates want to know that. I said, “Well, right now it’s at a dollar a click so far and it’s converting at 2.07% to Shawn’s list and 11.82% to mine. Crazy diiference, I know.” He said, “Wow,” and I said, “Here’s what I’m doing, we’ve added in some one time offers (OTOs) and our goal is to get it up a lot higher than that.” Just so you know, a dollar or $1.50 per click is good. So, when you can communicate with people in dollar amounts, like, “Hey, listen, I’m getting 50 cents a visitor or a dollar a visitor,” that’s the kind of things that most super affiliates want to know, to get the big boys to play with you.

The other thing to think about is, people also mail from an ego perspective. They want to join in and be part of a group. So, if you can kind of drop some names, like “I’ve already got this person promoting it and that person promoting it,” that’s what’s really going to motivate some people. Sometimes people just do it because they want to help you. You know, it’s like, “Hey, look, I’ll just do it out of the kindness of my heart.” And if they mail and it makes money, they’ll do more mailings for you in the future.

So, what if the scenario changes. Let’s say you don’t have any numbers to show your potential partners. Not a big problem especially if you have a good looking sales page or something that people can work with. If you have a pretty good looking site they will think, “You know, I’ll probably make a lot of money if I mail this…” You’re going to probably get more people interested in mailing for you. In addition, you can offer to hold their cookies for 6 months or a year if you like. Tell them that any product of yours that is sold to a person from their list, they are going to make money from.

However, you do not want to get tied up creating individual redirect links for every affiliate. The more  advanced the person is, the less you’re going to have to create the actual redirect for that person. Although, if you’ve got somebody that’s really going to mail and they require you to do it that’s not so much of a problem. But if not, then I would suggest that you just send them the affiliate link. I have even set up people’s affiliate accounts for them  only because I know they are lazy and secondly because I obviously have faith in them and know that they can sell a lot to their lists.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t invest the time in going out of my way to do it for them. But whatever you can do to make it a lot easier for your affiliates, this will increase your chances of having them mail for you.

When we do big promotions, we set up their affiliate accounts, asking, “What’s your email address, what’s your address, and where do you want to get paid?” We actually place all their links into an email and then email it back to them. Is it necessary to go to that extent? Absolutely! You’ve got to understand, if you get just one person that just crushes it, it’s going to be well worth it for you. If you’ve got a well-converting offer, then it’s well worth the extra effort. If your offer is not converting and not doing well, then it’s not worth it. The only one thing I wouldn’t do is put in the redirects for people.

So, if you’re going to have your own affiliate program I highly suggest you make the process as easy as possible for your affiliate partners. This will increase your profits and theirs.

If you have a product that you are trying to get leads from but are failing there is hope for you. I recently was approached by a student of mine who had a website selling diet pills. As you know, this market is very competitive. However, if you know how to market well and build strong relationships with your audience, it is possible to penetrate such a market.

The owner of this site failed to get leads. They were focused on getting at least 100 leads and wanted to know what methods they could use that did not include writing articles or using pay-per-click advertising or any other form of paid advertising.

This may sound like an impossible feat but it’s not. Although article writing and distribution is a very successful method of marketing your website, some choose not to simply because it takes too long. Others fail to use paid advertising because they don’t have the budgets for it. Although I do think article writing and paid advertising are excellent methods, there are other methods you can use.

Forums are an excellent way to market and get the word out about your website. This would work very well in the market of diet and weight loss. Joining conversations in forums can make you an authority in your niche, thus giving you better access to your market and to potential customers. Definitely go to forums and communicate with people by offering information that you do know can help them with their problems or concerns. Remember, you do not sit there and them magically appear on the forum and say:“I have a great product. Go fill out this form here.” Don’t do that. What you want to do is put a link down in your bio or your resource box, driving them to your website.

Forums or message boards allow you to get the biggest reaction from your audience. You also get to instantly learn about what’s new in your market and the problems that people are experiencing in any given niche. Using forums and message boards won’t give you 100 leads per day but would most likely give you that amount in a month’s time. But whatever you do, take action as soon as possible to start gaining an edge in your market.

Forums can really excel your business to the next level if you use them correctly. Good luck!

A student asked, “I want to be an affiliate but I also want to capture visitors’ information on my own squeeze page for my own free offer for them to download before I send them to the company I will be an affiliate for. How do I put those pages together?”

The answer is, very easy. Let’s say you want to become an affiliate for health products. So what you want to do is create a health-related squeeze page. After people sign up on that page you are going to send them to a thank you page that will have the link of your affiliate on it or just send them directly to your affiliate page.

If you’re going to do it yourself and create that squeeze page, you’re going to probably want to use something like FrontPage or Web Expressions or Nvu.com. Once you design that page, you’re going to have to get a hosting account, a domain name and a subscription to an autoresponder service. I personally recommend Autoresponse Plus (autoresponseplus.com) for your autoresponder.

Next, you will have to go into your autoresponder and set up a form that basically says, “All these people that I’m capturing right now are for my health newsletter”  After someone successfully subscribes, it’s going to ask you where you want them to go? Well, where you want them to go is to that affiliate link. So as soon as somebody signs up, they’re going to go to that affiliate link.

Now you’ll be able to capture all their information before you drive them to your affiliate page. If you are offering them a bonus download or something else, you’ll be able to send them an email with the download  and then have them land on that affiliate page.  On the download page that you created, you can say, “Here’s the free download that we promised you. But, there are three steps that we want to take. First, go here, download this information. Second, go to this page and find out about this absolutely amazing strategy to be able to do XYZ. And then number three is wait for the next email.”

It is important to call them to action by telling them what to do, in a polite manner, of course.
