Finding a Good Niche to Start a Membership Site

Membership sites have been the talk of the online community for some time now. You can make quite a bit of money while providing your readers with useful resources and information. It can be a win-win for both parties. I really think starting something with continuity or residual money is a great thing to do. Membership sites, quite honestly, can be a pain in the rear in the sense that things may not work properly all the time. When something goes wrong it becomes your fault and you need to get that fixed as quickly as possible. There are so many things that could possibly go wrong.

The concept of a membership site is a great thing to start, but the one thing you’ve got to realize is that you want to make it as easy as possible for yourself so that you don’t have to go into your membership area and edit and modify everything all the time. I personally like doing something physically offline a lot better than I do online.

The more personalized service you can give your customers offline, the better the retention or stick rate is going to be than an online thing.

Another thing is you always have to update your information if you’re doing it online with your membership site.

However, if you are trying to find a possible niche to do a membership site in, the first and best thing to do is look online. I would find out what the top selling things are on eBay, find out the top selling niches in Amazon and sites like that. Eeven PayPal will tell you what some of the biggest-selling items are. This is really important. You can also go to Clickbank to do some research. Find the things that have gravity to give you an idea of what’s selling really well and what’s not.

One thing that I do is when I have my own list in a specific niche, I send out an email to test the waters and see what kind of response I get for that niche. If the response is good I will continue working on developing that area.

If I was to totally throw some ideas out there, the top niches always involve sex, God, and money. I’m not advocating or telling you to get in one or the other, but undoubtedly there’s a lot of money in those industries. With sex I’m not only talking about porn, but Health, fitness and beauty. When I talk about God, I’m not just talking about religion, but all things to do with spirituality. When I’m talking about money, I’m talking about making money, saving money, I’m talking about real estate, I’m talking about internet marketing – I’m talking about things like that. Those are some great niches for you to look in to.

Something to keep in mind with a membership site is you always want to make sure that you’re constantly adding more cool things to keep people interested and wanting to come back.
