Yahoo Site Explorer Shuts

Down – Your Alternatives?

By: Matt Bacak

Yahoo Site Explorer (YSE) got shut down or rather morphed with Bing Webmaster Tools. This has created an opportunity for people that sell information contained in the YSE since searchers will not be able to get it anywhere else. There is a yahoo site explorer alternative for people looking for the high quality services that were once provided by Yahoo Site Explorer. They include:

1. SEOMoz open site explorer

This is a yahoo site explorer alternative that allows a person to see the incoming links for any site. All that is needed is for you to put in the URL and hit the search button. The site explorer then lists all the sites linking to that page. This allows webmasters, bloggers, and internet marketers to create a better link building strategy after finding out where back links are coming from. This is a free service but the downside is that the details are sketchy. There is a premium option for people that want more features and advanced reporting.

 2. Web SEO analytics

This yahoo site explorer alternative also gives details on the websites linking to a given site or webpage. It provides a lot of information e.g. page links, page rank, domain links and the like. A person that wants more detailed information has to pay for premium membership.

3. Searchmetrics

This is another yahoo site explorer alternative that provides information that could be useful to markers and webmasters. You get information about search engine ranking, competing sites, paid search listings etc. You have to get a premium account to access most of the features.

 4. Browser extensions

You can use the SEOBook toolbar for Firefox to gather a lot of information on competitors about links, page rank, domain age, traffic levels and insights on social media strategy among other things. This information will help you increase your reach and thus revenues.

Another extension that serves as a good yahoo site explorer alternative is the SEO plugin for Firefox. A simple installation will give you a lot of insight into any website URL you type into the search box. You will get to know details about link building strategies, ranking, traffic levels etc. It also gives you access to a wide range of research tools to help in your website promotion.

 5. Google hacks

This is a book that shows readers about how to use the search engine to increase reach and traffic levels. You will be able to know how to use codes generated in the SERPs, how to write programs using the Google API, how to morph Google search results with those from Amazon etc. There are countless hacks that will help a webmaster increase his site’s value in a relatively short time. The information contained herein provides a good yahoo site explorer alternative.

A webmaster looking for a good yahoo site explorer alternative has very many other options apart from the ones above. Some of them are:

  • Link research tools – provides a lot of link data, SEO metrics and a lot of other information.
  • AdGooroo – you get unique link data, spam filtering services, specialized training etc.
  • Linkdex – with this yahoo site explorer alternative, you get tracking capabilities, training for beginners, creation of link building strategies etc.

In a nutshell, while YSE was a good service, there are many other viable alternatives that webmasters and marketers can use.

All these tools are good but all required premium membership. I think there is no tool that could replace Yahoo’s free service and its really a fatal blow for small business owners who can’t invest much on such tools.
