Russell Conwell’s “Acres of Diamonds”

Blog Posts

Ever since the “Words Of Wisdom – Can You Get Rich? (thanks Felix Dennis)” post, I’ve been listening to things that inspired me years ago. You see, for almost 7 years now I’ve stopped listening to all the Self Help and Personal development stuff because I went into implementation and thought what the heck do I need to listen to this crap for. I just need to do it. But, recently when I listened to the words of Felix I then realized, the self help and personal development stuff got me though tough times and helped me early on with inspiration to be someone.

I also remembered that when I was a little kid my parents always listened to things like that and I always wondered if it had an effect on me always wanting to be an entrepreneur. So, now that I have kids I figured why not start listening to motivational things again because maybe going into their minds early will help facilitate there success in the future at what ever it may be…

Below you will find a video called: Acres of Diamonds.

My family and I have been listening to this as we drive together and I wanted to share it with you. I got the CD of this at B&N for 19.95 but you can hear it for FREE. I’ve also added some links of places you can read it or just listen to it instead of watching it below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It really gets me thinking.

(This story was originally written by Russell Conwell but in the video above it’s being read by Denis Waitley)

Download the original book here -> http://budurl.com/AcresOfDiamondsPDF

Download the MP3 audio here -> http://budurl.com/AcresOfDiamondsMP3
(The audio is OK – it’s a machine talking.)

Please feel free to post a comment on my blog about this post, or what you think about Russell Conwell’s “Acres of Diamonds”. Personally, I think it’s as good today as it was when it was written back in 1890.

Great video and MP3. It kind of sums up what I haven't been able to articulate about my own path as of late. This should be mandatory for kids in school, seriously.

My 12 year old really gets it. She was asking me questions the whole time we were listening to it in the car.

I love this story. Several times a year I refer to it. Very motivating. How many of us totally *overlook* the opportunity in our own *backyard* and start chasing others?

    Thanks for sharing.

I was talking to my wife about that exact same thing. My wife bought “the little red caboose” for the kids the other day… then I said to her..” you know all those stories we made up to tell the kids.” They love them.. “we should write them down and turn them into kids books” and have my wife be a kids book author. So…. guess what She might be getting some good publisher cause of all my connections.

Thanks again Matt, another great and inspiring post. That's awesome that your wife may be publishing kids books. Lately my kids and I have been making up stories with the kids doing most of the work and me moving the story along as we go.

No chance of publishing them though, they don't usually take to long to turn into stories about aliens with giant butts that poop on stuff…

The story of happiness and the search for diamonds is, to me, the classic mistake we aqll tend to make. Most of the Western world population has a roof, food and a degree of comfort. Most of the developing world lacks most of these things. The search of the wealthy people should not be for more wealth but for how to give more to the starving billions – but let us not forget – the world's population is the greatest problem, alongside the climatic changes this growing population is forcing on the fragile earth.

I totally appreciate you comments. Here's something to think about… When I got out of college, all I did was try to save people. To help others. That was my main intention to do when I got into business. I wanted to teach children about financial literacy. As I started going bankrupt, I finally the message, “Put the oxygen mask on yourself first” it finally sunk in. Just like on an airplane, if you don't put your oxygen mask on yourself you won't survive to put it on your child or anyone else in need. It hit me like a ton of bricks… being poor I can help a few, being wealthy I can help many.

Thanks for the essential posting, Matt! I group “Acres Of Diamonds” with “Science Of Getting Rich”, “You Were Born Rich”, “Think And Grow Rich” and “The Riches Man In Babylon” as the 5 great prosperity classics, but AoD holds the greatest emotional resonance with me. Perhaps the original text did relate to some religious/political issues, so I found the style of writing very intriguing.

Greetings USA! Well has looked a film and what? It is similar to a moral, and this superfluous when all time only and you think: “And how to grow rich faster”? There is at us such expression: “Not at once Moscow was under construction” that in literal sense means, according to Solomona – There is time for everything. I thank for the book. I on FaceBook.

There is an old saying that “the older one gets” the “wiser one becomes”. In some instances this is ture, but getting old in itself, is not necessarily good. Indeed, it means you have managed to live a long time, but, what have you accomplished in your many years? What have you been able to do for yourself with success that can also be of benefit to your fellow man? I hear many people say many things, when it comes to what each believes to be their basis of success. Most quantify “success” as being wealthy enough to buy whatever their wants may be, others are less demanding and are content to be good Husbands/Wives and to be inspirational to their children and close family. However, no matter the age of a person, all must have a “foundation” upon which one can build this wonderful acheivement of contentment and well being. Some learn this foundation at an early age, others take a bit longer, still others, never do learn the foundation, to acheive this lofty goal of success, that can bring about great personal rewards, that can and should be shared as is practical with others. To this end, it is refreshing to listen to “Acres of Diamonds”, and the truths that are eveident in its verbiage. I strongly recommend anyone who is striving for inner peace and fortitude to listen to the message in this recording, not once but again and agin, as the message is that good. Best Regards/Gary Ackerman

This is so true, we are always looking for something else to make us happy and all we need to do is look inside and find the diamonds within ourselves.
I was always taught to look inside for the that is where we find the answers that we need and the peace that we look for, not in worldly things BUT within.
I really enjoyed this and thanks.

Thanks for the reminder that we already have the diamonds. So it's up to us if they are diamonds in the rough or glint with the edges finely cut. Got' some work to get done here. Inspiration appreciated.

What was said in the Video makes a lot of sense. You have to look inside yourself for what you seek. If you have the faith that you can make it that is a start. The rest if up to yourself to make it work.
