If you’re looking for a very effective strategy to acquiring long-term, high-value members into your program, I’d highly recommend offering a one-time offer. This is a great method to use to have people stick around longer in your membership program. A one-time-offer is also known as an OTO. It’s basically a special offer that you give to your prospective customer when they’ve already purchased your initial offer. So, let’s say you were selling an e-book for $9.97. Well, you could make it for a related product for a little less than the initial offer. So, it could be offered at $5. It’s only slightly more than your initial product offer which makes it more likely that your customer will buy. So, when your customer pulls out their credit card and purchases your $9.97 e-book, they are then immediately presented with the $5 OTO.

What makes them so effective is their ability to place a time limit on the existing offer. It creates a sense of urgency which leads to an impulsive decision by the customer to buy immediately after their first purchase. The idea is to present it to them right away while they’ve already purchased from you since they are already in the buying mood. They want to purchase simply because your price and offer is irresistible and for the simple fact that they’ll never have another chance to purchase it again (because you’ve told them that on the page).

Why do they work so well? If you run your offer and people are buying, the next best place to make your offer is to immediately make it right after their initial purchase. This doesn’t only work with products but also with membership sites. Basically on the next page after their purchase, you’ll place it there. This offer will say, “Hey, by the way, since you just bought X, what I’d like to do is I’d like to be able to continue working with you, not just work with you once… I’m willing to give you this…” or something along those lines. But put a little twist on this offer. What you can do is you can sell them through the OTO process and then, give them a free trial offer. This increases your chances of making more money and grabbing more prospects for future revenues. Free trials are probably the biggest and most effective strategy for this type of business model.
