How to Restructure a Website – Part 1
By Matt Bacak

“I’m restructuring my website. Can you explain what to do first, second, etc.? My understanding is first squeeze page with free bonus, thank you page with sales letter.”

If you’re restructuring your website, there are some essential things you’ll need to have as a part of your website structure. There is a sequence that you need to follow in order to help in your conversions. If you’re restructuring everything, the first thing that you’ll need to get is a domain. It’s going to be a domain for your squeeze page. Once you purchase your domain, you’ll then have to create a squeeze page, of course. You don’t necessarily have to have a squeeze page with a free bonus. But that is a good place to start as that’s what’s going to increase the people that opt in.

Also, think about where you want your visitors to land on the page. Consider what things that would make sense for them to land there. Most often it’s going to be a sales page. So, you’ll need to create a sales letter. After that, you’ll need to think about your offer. What one-time offer can you offer the people that buy off of your sales letter page or buy the particular product you have available there? Think about the next most logical step for them to take. Once you have that in mind, go back to your squeeze page that you’ve set up, and start driving the traffic to that page. Use different traffic sources to do it. Get some articles written and start submitting some articles to various article sites like EzineArticles.com. The next thing you should do is go set up a Google AdWords account, (if you don’t already have one) and start driving traffic to your new campaign. So you’re using multiple traffic sources to drive the traffic to your squeeze page.

The idea is get them on your squeeze page. Now, once they sign up through your squeeze page and begin receiving your autoresponder message, you’ll need to direct those people to different offers. But don’t focus on anything until you’ve actually got your subscribers. Just focus on getting the traffic. But most importantly you’re going to need to test.

Testing that page through a/b split testing is key. So, what exactly is a/b split testing? Let me explain. Split testing allows you to test which elements on a page are helping the pages performance. It also tells you which elements on a page are weak and therefore ruining your good conversion rate. Often times you’ll need to test two different headlines on a landing page. Whichever headline outperforms the other, this would allow you to determine the top-performing page. It basically allows you to improve your conversion rate while understanding your visitor’s behaviours and priorities so that you can make the appropriate changes to produce the highest converting page possible. But you’ll need to test ongoing so that you can continue to try to outperform your existing page.

Stay tuned for the next article. I’ll address exactly which software tool I use for split testing various elements on my pages. But not only that, I’ll give you the exact instructions on which pages to test and how to test in order to properly restructure your website.
