Social media strategies have become an integral part of online marketing ever since the onset of online social media. It took most of us by surprise and marketers did not know how to engage social media services with other aspects of online marketing.

Of late, social media advertising and other social media aspects have dominated the bigger part of online marketing. It is the cheapest and the biggest source of traffic to websites. However, many are not harnessing even 1% of this tremendous resource. I would attribute this to not knowing how to go about this.

In case you haven’t stumbled upon a social media blog to get some tips, these basic tips below will be of great help in tapping more benefit from the social media.

  1. The platform of social media is interaction. Take time to see what your clients and fans are saying on social media. Comment and show that you care.
  2. Social media advertising hails quality of information as first priority. Show how you care and willingness to help, as opposed to selling. Find a balance between these two.
  3. From one of the social media blogs I have been religiously reading, it has been clear that you should not stick to one type of social media. Each media has its strengths and relevance.
  4. Since social media is a daughter to online marketing, make your presence searchable. Optimize it as much as possible.
  5. When crisis about your brand show up on the social media, keep calm. Just have a disaster preparedness plan to counter the tragedies.
  6. Do not let anyone to represent your brand on the social media. Social media strategists advise that it is not right for everyone to participate on behalf of the firm, online. Not all of them believe what your firm believes.
  7. One thing you should not forget is the reason why you are using social media advertising or other strategies. Set realistic goals and remind yourself of them.
  8. Have an efficient way of measuring how effective of your social media strategies are.
  9. Your competitors may be using the same social media services you are. However, you need to be above the edge. Be innovative, or open to them.
  10. Do not ignore your audience. One factor that will affect the quality of your social media services is responding to your audience.
  11. A social media blog taught me not to be impolite online. You may disagree with your audience or competitors; but, save your company from damage control.
  12. Do not set up a social media account if you won’t use it, reduce the social media advertising costs where you can.
  13. With social media services, consider the platform you are using as well as the audience you are trying to reach. Not all of them are equal.
  14. Make your firm as friendly as possible on the online platform. Faceless and nameless companies are not friendly at all.
  15. Grow your social media presence by not only gaining followers, but by winning them as clients.
  16. Handle your countless encounters online just like you would do with real business.
  17. Do not only use social media services to market your products but provide useful information to your followers that they wouldn’t find anywhere else.
