Tips on How to Track Affiliate Links

Becoming an affiliate marketer selling other peoples products online for a portion of the sale is a smart move if you have a list that you can market to. People in any niche love to get product recommendations for things that will help them in their life – whether it be a golf club to help them play golf better or a chair that alleviates stress from their back. People need things to work for them and if you can use affiliate marketing to help them, you can be on the fast track to making a lot of money online.

However, in order to really build a business (besides having a list), you’ll need to test and track what you’re doing to ensure that you’re not wasting time and money. After all, you don’t want to invest hundreds or even thousands of dollars blindly not knowing whether or not your marketing efforts are working or not. You want to make sure that you are tracking everything you do to make sure that you can make the most amount of money possible. You need to test EVERYTHING. From your sales letter, to your email subject line. Tracking and testing every aspect of your business just makes good business sense!

Typically when I’m tracking my affiliate links, I look at the clicks I’m getting from various affiliate accounts. What I usually do is when I’m sending out emails, I’m using HTML email. All of my emails are in a HTML format not text format. Although it looks like a text email, it is actually an HTML email. But I do it this way so that I can easily track my clicks by simply logging into my mailing program. So, that’s how I do it from emails.

I don’t cloak affiliate links at all. But what I do do is I make redirects. I log into my cPanel. I take the affiliate link and change it to a personalized link of my own – aka a redirect link. By doing this, I’m creating redirects and redirecting the affiliate link to go to my own link. I do this so that it’s not a big, long, gobbledy-gook link that sways people from clicking. You can also consider using other programs and other affiliate tracking software available on the market to help you in your tracking and testing efforts.

The Quickest Way to Make Money As an Affiliate

“Being a complete and utter newbie to the internet marketing world, can be a challenge especially if you only have a small amount of money to invest and don’t own your own product. But if you want to make money quickly selling other peoples products as an affiliate, what’s the fastest way to earn some money online?

Here are some essential steps you need to take to start making money online as an affiliate:

Let’s say you want to be an affiliate specifically in the market of health products. You’ll first need to purchase a domain and hosting. Once you’ve purchased your domain name and website hosting, you’ll also require autoresponder software that will allow you to produce a form on your website to capture the names and email addresses of your visitors. This is called an opt-in page and it’s essential to growing your business. Having a list of names and email addresses gives you the flexibility to send an email at any time in the future promoting a new product and hopefully making some sales.

If you want to make good money like the biggest affiliates out there, you’ll need to have what they have and that’s an opt-in list. Yes, they too have an opt-in form on their websites to capture the names and email addresses of their visitors. That’s how they make long-term income. They continue to send offers to their list. And as long as they are sending traffic to their opt-in form on their website, they’re going to make money. You need a list to have a solid business for long-term income.

However, having an opt-in form of course is not enough. You have to drive traffic to your website. To gain traffic, I suggest that you write informative articles that will interest your readers. The reason I’m telling you to write articles is because it doesn’t cost you any money. Of course this is true if you have the time to write the articles. But if you don’t have the time or don’t have any interest in writing articles, you can hire someone from a local college or simply consider hiring someone from freelance project sites. There are tons of writers eager to write articles for your market.

However, you need to make sure that your articles include the following 5 things:

One, you’re going to need to have the subject line of your article. Two, you’re going to need to have the summary of the article. Three, you’re going to need to produce the content. And you want your content to be about 500 words. The other thing you need to have is your bio also commonly referred to as your resource box on your article. This bio/resource box tells your readers who you are and what you do. This box is often at the end of your article and it is extremely useful because it drives people back to your opt-in page so that people can opt-in.

Now, as soon as they opt-in and enter their name and email address into your form, there’s a function inside your autoresponder program where you can tell them where you want them to go. What I would suggest you doing is automatically directing them to your thank you page. But, instead of it being your regular thank you page that says; “thank you very much for signing up,” say something else like; “thank you for signing up. I’ll email you more info in the coming weeks about xyz. However, if your eager to read more about xyz, I did find something that may be of interest to you…” And then offer your affiliate link for the recommended product. Basically you’re leading them to the sale letter page for that particular affiliate product.

So basically, what we’re doing is you’re having visitors enter your website while at the same time building your list. Not only that, but you’re having them land on the sales letter to the affiliate product that you’re recommending. Basically, you’re building a list while you’re doing affiliate marketing. And that is one of the best ways to begin your cash flow. But one thing to remember is that even if they don’t opt in and they don’t buy immediately, guess what? You’re still building your list. Now when you find another affiliate offer, you can simply send them an email suggesting that product. Once you have a list there is no limit to how much money you make. As long as you properly align your offers and build a relationship with your list, your opportunities are endless!

Tips on Determining Affiliate Commissions

Creating a digital product that is easily down-loadable is an excellent concept because it usually involves less overhead and less of your time and can be delivered through an automated process. With this type of product it is not uncommon for affiliate managers to offer up to 60% commission and sometimes more! Now this is fantastic if you are an affiliate because it obviously means more money in your pocket if you decide to market their product. However, the question remains, how can they afford to do this?

Just imagine if you were the one producing that product. How would you feel about giving away half of everything you sold to somebody else that had no input into its creation? 50% commissions are usually the standard and if you offer anything less, you are not going to be very successful trying to convince JV’s and affiliates to market your product, no matter how good it is.

What about hard tangible products? If you get into producing a hard product, there are some real costs involved in doing this. And you may wonder, do I still need to give up half of every sale to each of my partners? The answer is yes. You are going to have to eat all the costs of production.

Even in my case, a lot of people buy my programs at speaking engagements or via teleseminars. But if they were hosted by somebody else other than myself, there is still a 50/50 split. I eat all the costs involved, including travel. What about shipping and handling? A lot of times I personally handle that myself and I eat that as well. But this cost is optional and a lot of people don’t include it. I believe they should but that’s just my perspective.

So, the real question is why do we have to give up so much and cover so many costs? Well, what it all comes down to is, you’re eating the cost but you’re gaining the customer.

The value is in the customer, not in the initial sale. The benefit is now you have somebody that you’re able to work with and sell more to in the future. You could call it the cost of advertising or the cost of doing business. It is no different then what most corporate giants do. They spend a lot of money just to get a few new customers through the door, because they know that once they’ve got you, there is a good chance you will stay with them if they continue to service your needs. Investing in loyalty is always worth the cost.
